Smiley Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 19, 2026
1. About this policy
Smiley: Daily Smile Calendar is made by Zaamdaa Studio. It helps you keep a personal smile photo journal and create videos from your photos. This policy explains what the app processes, what stays on your device, and what happens when you delete or share content.
2. TrueDepth and face data
When you open the capture screen and allow camera access, Smiley uses the front camera and Apple's ARKit face tracking, including the TrueDepth camera on supported devices. It processes smile and cheek expression values (mouthSmileLeft, mouthSmileRight, cheekSquintLeft, and cheekSquintRight), face position and orientation, tracking status, the number of tracked faces, and a temporary face-anchor identifier.
These values are used only to guide framing, check that one face is centered at a suitable distance and facing the camera, show smile progress, and detect a sustained smile before automatically taking a photo. The temporary identifier keeps the capture sequence associated with the same tracked face; it is not used to recognize you across sessions. Smiley does not use face data to identify you, build a biometric profile, infer your health or emotional state, target advertising, or train machine-learning models.
Face tracking values and the calculated smile strength are processed in memory on your device. They are not saved to files or a database, attached to saved photos or videos, or uploaded to any server. They are temporary processing data, released when no longer needed, rather than a retained face-data record. Smiley does not save raw depth maps, 3D face meshes, or biometric identity templates. Face tracking pauses when you leave the capture screen or the app becomes inactive.
Smiley does not disclose, share, sell, or provide these face tracking values to Zaamdaa Studio, advertisers, analytics providers, or any other third party. There is no stored face-tracking history to delete.
3. Camera images, saved photos, and videos
Camera frames are processed locally for the live preview and photo capture. When a sustained smile triggers capture, Smiley saves the resulting photograph and a thumbnail with its record date and time in the app's local storage. These photos contain your face, but do not include the ARKit expression values, face pose, or tracking identifier. Live camera frames are not retained as a continuous recording or sent to us.
Smiley uses your saved photos to display your journal and to create reels from the photos you select. Video creation takes place on your device. Saved photos, thumbnails, completed reels, and their associated records remain in the app until you delete them; there is no automatic expiry period. Temporary rendering files are cleared after completion, cancellation, or failure.
4. Local storage, widgets, and backups
Your journal, photos, videos, and app preferences are stored locally on your device. The Smiley widget reads a small calendar summary through local App Group storage; this summary does not contain your photos or face tracking values. Smiley does not provide an account, developer-hosted storage, or automatic cloud synchronization.
Local saved files may be included in iCloud Backup or computer backups, depending on your device settings. This is system backup behavior, separate from Smiley's on-device face processing. Backups are managed through Apple or the backup tools you use.
5. Sharing and permissions
Smiley does not automatically send your photos or videos to Zaamdaa Studio or third parties. If you choose to share a reel, the system share sheet sends the video to the destination you select. The shared video contains the selected photos, not ARKit tracking parameters. The receiving app or service handles that copy under its own privacy policy.
Camera permission is requested for smile capture. Saving a reel to the system Photos library requires add-only Photos access; Smiley does not need access to read your entire Photos library. You can revoke permissions in system Settings. Optional smile reminders use local notifications on your device and require notification permission.
6. Deleting your data
You can delete smile photo records and reels in the app. Deleting a photo record removes its photo and thumbnail from the app's library. Deleting a photo does not remove an already-created reel containing it, and deleting a reel does not delete the original photos. Delete both if you want to remove both copies.
Deleting the app removes its local app data from the device. Copies previously saved to Photos, shared to another destination, or included in device backups are separate and may remain. You must manage or delete those copies through the relevant app, service, or backup settings.
7. Purchases, analytics, and support
Smiley Pro is an optional one-time purchase processed by Apple. Smiley uses StoreKit to display the local price, verify purchase status, and restore purchases. Verified purchase information is used on your device to enable Pro features. We do not receive or store payment card details. Apple handles payments and purchase transactions under its own privacy policy. There is no subscription or automatic renewal.
The Smiley app does not include advertising, third-party analytics, or cross-app tracking. Zaamdaa Studio does not sell your app data.
If you email support, we receive the information you choose to include and use it to respond to your request. Please avoid sending private photos unless they are needed to explain your issue.
